Myotherapy/
Massage Therapy

Myotherapists and Remedial Massage Therapists specialise in soft tissue treatment, to assist in the recovery from muscle soreness and in the overall management of muscle spasm and overload. They play an important role in resolving acute or chronic muscle pain and manage and prevent injuries from sport, work and general activities of daily living.

Our myotherapists and remedial massage therapists work closely with the other clinic practitioners (physiotherapists and podiatrists) in injury management and pride themselves on delivering the latest treatment options available to patients, to achieve optimum recovery.

Myotherapy and remedial massage treatment options can include:

  • Soft tissue release/mobilisation – using either soft or deep tissue massage

  • Myofascial release

  • Trigger point therapy

  • Dry needling

  • Practitioner assisted stretches

  • Muscle energy techniques

  • Myofascial cupping

Common conditions treated by myotherapists and remedial massage therapists:

  • Neck and back pain

  • General muscle and joint tightness

  • Tendinopathy (golfers/tennis elbow, hip/gluteal tendinopathy, achilles
    tendinopathy etc.)

  • Headaches, migraine and jaw pain (TMJ)

  • DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) – recovery from intensive training and competition

  • Frozen shoulder – greatly assists in recovering joint mobility in “thawing & resolution phase”

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Pregnancy – lower back and pelvic girdle pain

  • Corked thigh – later stages

  • Carpal tunnel syndrome

  • Post-operative recovery – following shoulder rotator cuff repair surgery, total hip/knee replacement surgery, arthroscopy where muscle tightness/spasm does not resolve naturally

Laurelle Braithwaite and Bobby McCallum provide remedial massage and myotherapy treatment (respectively) at Albert Street Sports & Spinal Injury Centre. A referral is generally not required to see them, however WorkCover patients will require a GP referral before their first visit (please note that gap fees apply for WorkCover patients).

Please wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing to your appointment. Most massage sessions are scheduled for 45 minutes, however you are welcome to discuss longer or shorter appointment times with your therapist or our friendly team of receptionists on front desk. If you have extras with your private health insurance, you can claim at the time of your consultation through our Hicaps facility.

When booking through our website’s Online Booking portal, please choose Myotherapy or Remedial Massage Therapy from the drop down list under “Show available times for”.
