Podiatry

Podiatrists specialise in the diagnosis, management and prevention of foot disorders. They also manage injuries associated with foot and lower limb dysfunction.

The podiatry service at Albert Street Sports & Spinal Injury Centre is run by Core Podiatry (http://www.podiatrygroup.com.au/). These podiatrists have a particular interest in the assessment of walking and running gait, by using various techniques including video analysis to investigate any biomechanical problems. They also provide skin and nail care of the foot eg. blisters, in-grown toe nails, calluses etc.

Common conditions treated by podiatrists include:

  • Heel pain, including Plantar Fasciitis, Sever’s Disease

  • Arch pain, particularly following Medial Ankle Ligament sprains, where the inside of your foot needs additional support to heal

  • Bunions

  • Achilles tendinopathy

  • Stress fractures of the foot – navicular and 5th metatarsal are common

  • Corns & Calluses, In-grown toe nails

  • Forefoot pain – Morton’s Neuroma, Plantar Plate tears

  • Calf and shin pain

  • Hip or knee pain that has a contributing foot/arch dysfunction

Podiatry treatment of your condition may involve:

  • Assessment and treatment of foot & lower leg problems, in both adults & children

  • Prescription of orthoses to address foot and lower leg dysfunction

  • Repair and modification of existing foot orthoses (as appropriate)

  • Treatment of skin and nail conditions of the foot

  • Advice regarding appropriate running shoes, football boots, school shoes for children and any other footwear worn during the day
